On Journals and Donkeys
August 12, 2022Is Anyone Thirsty?
September 21, 2022What do you think of when you hear that phrase? I heard it recently, and my first thought was one of excitement. The anticipation of what one is about to behold breeds excitement, perhaps even joy. Picture a bride in her wedding dress complete with a veil, and the groom standing before her, anticipating the unveiling of his beloved. In a traditional wedding, the veil is not removed until they are pronounced husband and wife. Then the veil is lifted and the groom kisses his bride. What excitement is felt in that moment when the groom first beholds his love! What joy is experienced with the pronouncement of husband and wife, and the kiss that seals it!
Now, think of our Lord Unveiling Himself to us. Our Groom, the Lord Jesus Christ, is mysterious and wondrous, and He delights in revealing Himself and His truths to us daily (He is Truth, according to John 14:6). It happens a little more each day as we pursue Him. He is always teaching us. Because we are spending a lifetime learning about Him, we often lose the excitement and joy of walking with Him. It seems like it is taking forever to grow closer to Him. Well, the truth is, that it IS taking forever to know Him, that we cannot possibly know everything there is to know about Him. We spend our lives drawing closer to Him, knowing Him so we can be like Him. Is that not the goal of the Christian life – to be like Jesus? Yes, I think it is. I know it is.
So let us not grow weary in well doing (Gal. 6:9) – in pursuing Him in order to know Him. The more we know Him, the more we will be like Him. The more time we spend in His presence, the more we surrender to Him. The more He unveils Himself to us, the more of Him we want.
So let Him unveil more of Himself to you today. Sit in His Presence and see His beauty, experience His love, and be enveloped in His peace.
Blessings and Grace,
Adina
